A Tour of Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods & Manitou Springs

One of the best Denver day trips is a Pikes Peak tour in Colorado Springs. It’s less than two hours away and home to some of the most beautiful views and attractions in Colorado.

pikes peak summit

Located in Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak is one of the biggest scenic attractions.

Called America’s Mountain for its role inspiring the song “America the Beautiful”. With a height of 14,115 feet, you can see it all the way from Denver on a clear day.

And the view from the summit is something you’ve got to see for yourself – pictures don’t do it justice.

Garden Of The Gods

At the foot of Pikes Peak is the Garden of the Gods. Known for its massive red rock formations.

The story is that the name came from a survey expedition in 1859. Two surveyors left Denver in search of a place to start another city.

They discovered a beautiful area of sandstone formations.

One suggested that it would be a “capital place for a beer garden”. The other shouted, “Beer Garden! It’s a fit place for the Gods. We will call it the Garden of the Gods!” And it’s been called that ever since.

Manitou Springs

Just a few miles west of Colorado Springs sits historic Manitou Springs.

You’ll find art galleries, street performers, creek-side restaurants and boutique stores.

But the one thing you don’t want to miss is the incline. Even if you don’t intend to hike it, you have to see it.

Manitou Incline

Once a railroad track, the Manitou Incline now consists of 2,744 steps made entirely of railroad ties! Even though it’s only one mile long, the ascent averages a 41% incline (68% at its highest) and 2,000 feet in elevation!

There’s even a warning sign that compares the hike to climbing up – The Empire State Building, The Eiffel Tower twice, The Washington Monument three times, and The Statue of Liberty SIX times!

How to See It All

You could drive yourself. From Denver, it’s usually under two hours depending on traffic. You could map everything out, figure out where to go, how to get there, whether or not there’s a price for admission and so on.

Or, you could book a tour with a well-known, trusted tour company like Aspire Tours.

They’re a family-run business founded by Kathrin Troxler, and considered by many to be one of the best tour companies in Colorado.
